Presenter revealed: DJ Dictator of ClanBase Radio
I've approached another DJ of ClanBase Radio for an interview, this time it's the host of Massive Choons -
DJ Dictator.
Hello there Dictator and welcome to the third interview of CB Radio! If you would, can you please tell the people who don't know you something about yourself?
Well I'm DJ Dictator also known as Martijn. I started in the Medal of Honor: Allied Assault crew and after I while I joined ClanBase Radio. Currently I don't have my own slot due to my work, with my Dutch voice and all kinds of genres I hope to give every listener a decent set of music.
In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing when you're not at the decks?
Well I work in a Casino and following a study called European Studies and Communication Management (ESCM). But most of the times I like to go out with some friends and enjoy a good glass of Heineken.
I think everybody does there. So what interested you in joining ClanBase Radio and where did you hear about it?
Well in the first place I started as a ladder supervisor in 2006, due to some problems I had to drop my old account and rejoin the game crew in 2008. When the formers of ClanBase Radio set up this brand new channel I was interested in it. After a while I requested a trial session with mainly dance, trance and house music.
Ok, so what sort of DJ are you, the kind that just plays music, or talks whilst playing tracks giving the listener a real experience?
Well I try to mix this up. I have been away from the station for about 3 months. I used to give listeners the opportunity to call in and talk about everything. On other days I might do tons of things at the same time and just play some music with a short talk once in a while.
What is your favourite record of all time?
Hard question, that should be David Guetta ft Akon - Sexy Bitch or Nathalie Imbruglia - Torn.
About yourself now, what genres of music do you prefer and why?
Well back to the year 2000 I was totally interested in the trance/dance scene. Since 2005 I went back to house music which became more of my style of music. Since the summer of 2008 House became really popular again. So I am really satisfied that I can bring my own taste to the listeners with the genre that is "hot" right now.
Do you find yourself nervous when you are on air?
Well strange enough sometimes I do. Mainly because I just took a spot on air 5 minutes after I decided I would go online. Going on air without any thought about what you will do and/or talk about might make nervous. But when the first song/talk passed by I feel relaxed.
That's interesting. Are there any other reasons you feel nervous before going on, or is it because you haven't planned how you're going to run your time onair?
I think that is mainly because you want to serve what your listeners want to hear. Will they like your style (probably, otherwise they will turn the radio off ;) ) and then that comes together with your preparation.
Okay well, as you know, ClanBase is one of the biggest gaming communities which support a lot of games, have you ever played any cups/ladders that have been hosted by ClanBase?
I played every kind of cup/ladder that is played on ClanBase. They offer OpenCups, Hosted Cups, EuroCups, NationsCups, Invitational Ladders, Seasonal Ladders and just the regular ladders. And it's always good to see they are able to offer prizes for all gamers! ClanBase just delivers what the gamers want, and that is one of the reasons why I play and work for ClanBase.
Sounds like you're quite the gamer, what games have you played on ClanBase?
Mainly Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, but I have played Call of Duty 2 and lately Call of Duty 4 as well.
So moving back to the radio aspect: I'm sure you are aware that other DJs have a call-in function, where listeners call in and they have a little chat about life. Are you for this or do you strongly disagree with it?
I like this function and personally I am using it quite often. It's always fun to speak with our listeners as it makes the show more human. Everyone can listen to their iPod or music files on a computer. A voice on air just brings that special part, interactive action is just the way that fits with ClanBase Radio.
Yes I agree. So if there was no objection, is there something you would do to improve ClanBase Radio?
Well we have a great team which works together to bring the best we can. As we are all doing this on a voluntary base. We try to bring special shows once in a while (just as the marathon shows).
That's all of my questions for now so many special thanks for you and thanks for your time! Have you got any special shoutouts for the listeners?
No thanks ramdrop, I just want to say "tune in to ClanBase Radio - your music, your community, your station" and thanks for your time.
